Setting Up Windows 95 / Windows 98 Internet Explorer And Outlook Express

Setting up Window 95 / Windows 98 to access the Internet is fairly simple
and painless. Follow the instructions listed below

Starting Out
Important: If your computer is currently connected to a network, check with your network
administrator before changing any values!
First of all, you need to have Windows 95 / Windows 98 / or higher loaded and running. Most all new
computers come with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook Express pro-loaded, ready for
use. Follow the instructions.
Create / Changing an Internet Explorer Connection
This will set up a dial-up connection automatically by following these instructions:
Click on "Start" > "Setting" > "Control Panel" > "Internet Options".
Double click on the "Connections" tab.
You will have a box titled "Dial-Up Setting". Inside the box you will have an old dial-up connection with "(default)" beside it. (If you have never been connected to a dial-up connection, then skip the next instructions and go to the next one.)
Click on "Remove". (This deletes an old dial-up connection from other Internet Providers)
Above the Dial-Up Setting box, you will see "Use the Internet Connection Wizard to connect your computer to the Internet."
Click on the "Setup" button. ( follow below)
"Welcome to the Internet Connection Wizard"
Click on " I want to set up my internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network (LAN).
Click "Next".
"How do you connect to the Internet?"
Click on "I connect through a phone line and a modem".
Click "Next".
Step 1 Internet Account Connection Information
Type the phone number you dial to connect to our ISP.( In the telephone box, type " 872-5990 ")
The box next to "Dial using the area code and country code" should not be checked.
Click "Next".
Step 2 Internet Account Log-On Information
Type the user name and password you use to log-on to your ISP. Your user name will be your email address ( example: jedoe@laward.com )

Step 3 Configuring Your Computer
Information about your Internet account is grouped together as a dial-up connection and labeled with a
Name your provide.
Type a name for the Dial-Up Connection.
Type in "Laward.com".

Setup Your Internet Mail Account
"Do you want to setup an Internet mail account now?"Click the circle "YES".
Click "Next".
Internet Mail Account
Click the circle to "Create a New Internet Account."
Click the "Next".
Step 1 Your Name
When you send email, your name will appear in the "From" field of the outgoing message.
Type your name as you would like it to appear.

Click "Next".
Step 2 Internet Email Address
Your email address is the address other people use to send email messages to you.
Type your Email Address assigned from La Ward. (Example: jedoe@laward.com)
Click "Next".
Step 3 E-mail Server Names
My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server.
Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server:

An SMTP server is the server that is used for your outgoing e-mail.
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:

Click "Next".
Step 4 Internet Mail Logon
Type the "account name" and "password" your Internet service provider has given you.

Check the "Remember password" box. (Do this only for convenience, otherwise it is best to type in the password each time for security.)
Click "Next".
Step 5 Completing the Internet Connection Wizard.
After closing this wizard you can connect to the Internet at anytime by double clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desk top.

To close this wizard, click "Finish".
You are ready to connect to the Internet by clicking on the
